Dont Let Bad Poker Ruin Your Life

Health & Discipline

Poker demands concentration and it can only come from excellent physical health.

It needs amazing amount of stamina, which is killed by smoking or drinking while playing.

Good poker players demand an advantage. They do not hope to get lucky; they can just hope others don't get lucky. Like every game, poker also needs discipline. A disciplined limit player has solid pre-flop skills. When there is not much action pre-flop, he or she only plays the better hands.

Be patient

Patience means that every time you see clearly that you will lose, you should fold even if it is the 31st hand you fold. You have to be very patient, waiting for the best hand.

Be vigilant

However long may the hours spent at the table be, be vigilant! It is not impossible. But when staying at the table – be vigilant. Always.

Play within Bankroll

A successful player plays within the bankroll is another quality to master. Poker is a slow and steady process and takes years to acquire a bankroll and move up in limits. One must be able to justify to oneself why play in a game that is too high. Unless you have the answer to the “why” - you are only fooling yourself. Take the slow and steady way, and you will get farther along than trying to take the fast and easy way. A disciplined player knows when to play and when to quit. He recognizes when he is on tilt and is aware when a game is too juicy to just quit while ahead. Learn from mistakes

Learn from mistakes

A disciplined player is aware of his flaws. When he makes a mistake, he learns. He does not blame others or cry. He learns from the mistake and moves on.

A disciplined no-limit player is very different. This player is not so concerned with paying too many blinds; instead, he or she does not want to get trapped. The main difference is that the limit player avoids piddling away his stack bit by bit while a disciplined nolimit player avoids losing his whole stack in one hand. Hence, a disciplined no-limit player can play a lot of hands. However, a good no-limit player knows when to toss hands that will get him into trouble.
